Abstract :
Bacterial infections are usually caused by Staphylococcus epidermidis and
Pseudomonas aeruginosa which can cause swelling. Alternative medicine can use
herbal plants such as green betel which contains flavonoid compounds, tannins,
saponins, alkaloids. The purpose of this study was to determine whether green
betel leaf has antibacterial activity that provides inhibition against Staphylococcus
epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The antibacterial activity test of the ethyl acetate fraction of green betel leaf by
disc diffusion method was observed to observe the diameter of the inhibition zone
formed around the disc. Observation of the concentration of the ethyl acetate
fraction using a caliper, concentrations of 25%, 50% and 75% were compared
with the negative control, namely DMSO 10% and the positive control, namely
tetracycline.
Research result at the minimum concentration of the ethyl acetate fraction of
green betel leaf, which is 25%, it was able to inhibit Staphylococcus epidermidis
and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria which showed a higher value than the
bnegative control significant (P<0,05). Anova table of Staphylococcus
epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in column significant obtained P value
= 0,00 so at the level of significance =0,05 so that there is a significant difference
in concentration with positive control.
