Abstract :
Sunscreen is a cosmetic preparation that physically or chemically can inhibit
the penetration of UV rays into the skin. Kepok banana flower (Musa paradisiaca
Linn.) contains flavonoid and polyphenolic compounds that have potential as
sunscreens. The purposes of this studies are to determine the physical characteristics
of the cream preparation, the SPF value and the effectiveness of the cream from the
ethanolic extract of the kepok banana flower, and to find out of formula that gives the
highest SPF value review from the physical properties of sunscreen cream.
Kepok banana flower was extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol
solvent and then the thick extract was screened for phytochemical and then made a
cream with a concentration of 2%, 4%, and 6% of the ethanol extract of the kepok
banana flower. The physical properties of the preparation were tested and
determining of SPF value in vitro using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. The analysis
were using the one way ANOVA method.
Based on the results of phytochemical screening, the ethanolic extract of the
kepok banana flower contains flavonoids and polyphenols. The SPF values of the
kepok banana flower ethanol extract, FI, FII, FIII were 11,96 ± 0,28; 4,94 ± 0,08;
6,48 ± 0,34; 7,16 ± 0,05; and the ethanol extract of the kepok banana flower obtained
an SPF value of 11,96 ± 0,28. The highest SPF value in FIII with an extra level of
effectiveness and the results of the physical properties of the preparation are
homogeneous, dark brown in color, in the form of cream, the distinctive smell of
kepok banana blossoms, pH test results are 6,3 ± 0,29, viscosity test 186,66 ± 5,77
dPas, spreadability test 5,50 ± 0,01cm, adhesion test 2,00 ± 0,62 s, and water-soluble
cream type.
