Abstract :
Banana King Peel Extract (Musa x paradisiaca) is known to contain
flavonoid compounds that can be used as skin protection against sun exposure.
This study aims to determine the stability of the cream and the physical properties
of the ethanol extract of banana king peel extract (Musa x paradisiaca) sunscreen
cream and to determine the value of the sun protective factor (SPF) of the ethanol
extract of the plantain (Musa x paradisiaca) sunscreen cream.
Banana King Peel Extract (Musa x paradisiaca) was carried out using the
maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent then the extraction results were
made into 3 formulas with the same basis using a concentration of 5%, 10%, and
15%. Followed by stability test by centrifugation and physical properties test of
cream along with irritation test and determination of sun protective factor (SPF)
value by UV-Vis spectrophotometry.
The test results of the three formulas had good cream stability results,
indicated by the absence of cream phase separation. The three formulas had good
organoleptic results and homogeneous homogeneity tests. The results of the pH of
the three formulas obtained a pH value of 5 which was in accordance with the
requirements of a good cream (4.5-7.5). The dispersion test of the three formulas
was according to a good cream range (5-7 cm) where the average dispersion was
5.8 cm for formula 1; 5.63 cm for formula 2; and 5.36 cm for formula 3. The
results of the viscosity test of the three formulas were 108.33; 118.33; 123.33 this
corresponds to the requirements of a good cream (50-1000 dPa.s). The results of
the irritation test for all cream formulas did not have any adverse side effects on
the skin because they did not cause itching, burning, and burning sensation. The
results of determining the value of sun protective factor (SPF) from formulas 1,2,
and 3 are 5 (medium category), 9 (maximum category) and 13 (maximum
category). The statistical results of SPSS one way ANOVA on the SPF test
obtained a significant value of 0.05, this indicates that with an increase in the
concentration of the extract, the SPF value is significantly higher.
