Abstract :
Moringa oleifera is one of the Indonesian plant containing phenolic
compounds. A phenolic compound that has the ability to change or reduce free
radicals. Flavonoids are one of phenolic compounds have a variety antioxidant
activity, anti-inflammatory, hypo-allergenic, hepatoprotective, antithrombotic,
antiviral and anticarcinogenic activity. The purpose of this study was to determine
the total phenolic content of Moringa oleifera leaves qualitatively and to
determine the total phenolic content of the water extract of Moringa oleifera
leaves quantitatively. Samples were extracted with infundation methode using
water. Infusa obtained are evaporated on water bath. Qualitative test was
conducted using a preliminary test their phenolic compounds and Thin Layer
Chromatography the stationary phase silica gel F 254 and a mobile phase of
butanol: acetic acid: water (5: 1: 4). Determination of total phenolic content using
UV-Vis Spectrophotometer with the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent at a wavelength of
645.0 nm and at OT 34-37 minutes. The conclusion of this study are Moringa
oleifera leave positif contain phenolic compounds with total phenolic content of
the extract 11,234x10-3
± 2,571x10-6% w / w GAE.
