Abstract :
Background and Purpose Research : Menstruation is a physiological process of
releasing the endometrium, contains many blood vessels and occurs once a
month. Menstruation women will lose blood 60 ml or more which will reduce iron
level, cause iron deficiency anemia. Students pay less attention to diet due to the
density of activities at campus cause students to pay less attention to diet,
consume less protein and vitamins, while eating patterns, consum protein and
vitamins can be use to form hemoglobin along with iron other compounds.
National STIKES students d?not eat well and not pay attention to protein and
vitamin intake as iron need. With this, the purpose of this research was to
determine the morphology of erythrocytes in female students while menstruation.
Methods Research : This type of research is descriptive. This research was
conducted at the National STIKES Hematology Laboratory. With research
subjects 34 students of class 3A3 years 2018 DIII Medical Laboratory Technology
Study Program who have sign informed consent. The sampling technique use is
Total Sampling. Before examining the morphology of erythrocytes, taking venous
blood samples, morphology of erythrocytes was examine using a peripheral blood
smear. Frequency Distribution Table of Respondents Based on Characteristics is
use to process the data.
Results Research : 2 respondent was Hypochromic and 10 respondents
Normochromic. Judge from the size of the erythrocytes, all respondents have
microcytic-normocytic-Macrocytic sizes.
Conclusion : The morphology of erythrocytes in female students while
menstruation found abnormal erythrocytes in terms of size, that is microcytic,
normocytic, macrocytic (anisocytosis) and in terms of color, that is hypochromic
and normochromic
