Abstract :
Pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) contain various
compounds including flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, and saponins. Fragrant
pandan leaves have potential antibacterial effectiveness. Antibacterial gel
preparations are intended to kill pathogenic bacteria on the skin. The advantages
of using a gel compared to other topical preparations are that the gel has high
adhesion, does not interfere with breathing in the skin pores, is easily washed off
in water, and absorbs the drug in the skin well. The purpose of this study was to
determine at what concentration HPMC as a gelling agent was able to produce a
gel extract of fragrant pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) which had
good physical and antibacterial stability against Staphylococcus aureus gel and
antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. This research includes the
extraction of fragrant pandan leaves using the maceration method with 96%
ethanol solvent. The pandan fragrant leaf extract gel was made in 3 formulas, with
each formula having a different concentration of HPMC. Formula I with a
concentration of 2%, formula II with a concentration of 3%, and formula III with
a concentration of 4%. The gel that had been made was then tested for physical
stability for 21 days on days 0, 7, 14, and 21 which included organoleptic test,
homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity test, dispersibility test, adhesion test, and
protection test. Antibacterial activity test using well method. The test data
obtained were analyzed using One Way Anova. The results showed the best base
concentration of HPMC 2% by organoleptic test (thick gel, blackish green color,
characteristic pandan fragrance), homogeneous homogeneity, pH 6±0 which is
safe on skin pH, viscosity of 325±0 dPas, dispersion of 7,5 g.cm/s, adhesion of
15,17±0.00 seconds, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with
an inhibition zone of 27,26±25,30 mm which was included in the very strong
category.
