Abstract :
Heavy metal pollution can have an impact on health, one of which is lead
metal. Lead metal that continuously accumulates in the body can cause toxicity in
the body. The ethanolic extract of black onion contains flavonoids which are
chelating agents. This study was conducted to determine the potential of the
ethanolic extract of black onion in reducing lead (Pb) levels and the maximum
concentration of the ethanolic extract of black onion (Allium sativum L.) which can
reduce the highest levels of lead (Pb). The ethanolic extract of black onion was
made in five concentration series, namely 50 ppm, 75 ppm, 100 ppm, 125 ppm, and
150 ppm. Lead (Pb) of 20 ppm was treated with the addition of a series
concentration of black onion ethanol extract, the solution was separated by the
addition of chloroform. The aqueous phase containing residual lead (Pb) was
analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) at a wavelength of
283,3 nm. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of black onion (Allium
sativum L.) could reduce lead (Pb) levels. The ethanolic extract of black onion at a
concentration of 100 ppm can reduce the metallic lead (Pb) content the most with a
decrease of 57,9667%.
