Abstract :
Black garlic is a plant that is widely used as traditional medicine so it is
necessary to know the level of safety. The study was conducted experimentally with
the aim of knowing the LD50 value and toxic symptoms of the administration of the
n-hexane fraction of black garlic to male white mice with acute toxicity test.
Observations were carried out intensively for 30 minutes, the first 4 hours after
treatment and continued 24 hours after treatment with oral doses of the n-hexane
fraction of black garlic cloves 2,38 mg/20g BW, 2,97 mg/20g BW and 3,57 mg/20g
BW. Toxic symptoms observed included changes in body weight, behavior,
changes in color and hair loss, and feces. Observations showed that the n-hexane
fraction of black onion did not cause toxic effects or was included in the practically
non-toxic category in test animals as evidenced by the absence of death in test
animals after 24 hours of treatment.
