Abstract :
Waste pollution is pollution caused by domestic waste originating from
textile factories, leather tanning, Mono sodium Glutamate or vetsin, alcohol,
convection, batik cloth making and others. One of them is lead metal (Pb). Lead
will contaminate water sources which at certain concentrations will affect water
quality so that if water is drunk continuously it will cause poisoning. The body
needs an antidote to lower the levels of these metals. Plantain skin (Musa acuminate
Colla. Formacerifera Back.) contains flavonoids which function as chelating
agents. Flavonoids are able to form complex compounds with metals. This study
aims to determine the ability of plantain peel extract (Musa acuminata Colla.
Formacerifera Back.) which can reduce lead (Pb) levels to the maximum.
The method used is Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry in which the
methanol extract of plantain peel was made in five concentration series, namely 50
ppm, 75 ppm, 100 ppm, 125 ppm and 150 ppm. Lead metal (Pb) of 20 ppm was
treated with the addition of each concentration of methanol extract of plantain peel.
The solution was separated using chloroform. The aqueous phase, which is residual
lead (Pb) which does not react with flavonoids, was analyzed using Atomic
Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) at a wavelength of 283.3 nm to obtain a
maximum reduction in lead metal content.
The results of this study indicate that the concentration series of plantain
peel methanol extract can reduce lead metal levels with a maximum concentration
of 125 ppm with a percentage decrease of 56.4171%.
