Abstract :
Tobacco is one type of plant that is known among the people of Indonesia.
This plant is spread throughout the archipelago and has many uses, especially for
raw materials for making cigarettes. The nicotine in tobacco is addictive and
carcinogenic. The purpose of this study was to determine the nicotine content
contained in tingwe cigarettes of the gayo type and the Temanggung type using the
UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. Tobacco that has been pulverized is soaked
in methanol solvent. The qualitative test of nicotine content in tobacco was carried
out with H2SO4P and HCl P reagents and quantitative tests using UV-Vis
spectrophotometry. Determination of tobacco content was carried out using UVVis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 260 nm. The results of the qualitative
test showed that Gayo tobacco and Temaggung tobacco were positive for nicotine.
The average nicotine level in the gayo tobacco sample was 1.2041 mg/gr with an
average coefficient of variation (%KV) of 1.69% and in the Temanggung tobacco
sample it was 0.7620 mg/gr with an average coefficient of variation (%KV) of
0.82%
