Abstract :
The use of hand sanitizer is more effective and efficient when compared to
using soap and water, so many people are interested in using it. Aloe vera gel
obtained from the inside of the leaf which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory
properties contained in aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) has the potential to be used as a
mixed ingredient in the manufacture of hand sanitizers. The weakness found in aloe
vera is that it smells bad, so it is necessary to combine other plant active ingredients
that have good aromatic abilities, so that mint leaves (Mentha piperita L.) are added
to improve the aroma, mint leaves are one of the aromatic herbal plants that are
used to improve the aroma. is a producer of essential oils (Ardisela, 2012). Several
studies have shown that mint leaves have strong antibacterial properties, so they
can be used as the main ingredient in making natural hand sanitizers. The purpose
of this study was to determine the physical properties of the preparation, to
determine the decrease in the number of germs on the palms before and after the
use of non-alcoholic hand sanitizers and to compare the concentration of mint leaf
essential oil and aloe vera filtrate which could result in a decrease in the number of
germs on the palms. most optimal. Testing of non-alcoholic hand sanitizers from a
combination of natural ingredients in reducing the number of germs on the palms
with the pre-test and post-test control methods. The average result of formula 1 is
65.81%, formula 2 is 47.86%, formula 3 is 53.33%, from the three formulas it can
be concluded that the one with the most potential to reduce the number of germs on
hands is formula 1.
