Abstract :
ABSTRAK Skripsi ini berjudul “Hasrat dan Nilai dalam Novel Trilogi Psammead karya Edith Nesbitâ€. Tujuan dari penelitian ialah untuk mendeskrpsikan hasrat dan nilai yang muncul dalam ketiga novel Five Children and It (1902), The Phoenix and the Carpet (1904), The Story of Amulet (1906). Hasrat yang dimaksud penulis adalah hasrat berupa bentuk keinginan. Penulis memilih kata “Desire†karena di akhir novel ketiga, Nesbit menggunakan kata “Heart Desire†untuk mengakhiri jalan cerita tokoh anak dalam meminta keinginan kepada helper. Penulis mengidentifikasi beberapa masalah yang ditemukan adalah bagaimana hasrat dan nilai disajikan di ketiga novelnya, kemudian bagaimana hasrat dan nilai mempengaruhi perkembangan karakter tokoh anak-anak dalam ketiga novelnya dengan menggunakan beberapa konsep tentang hasrat dari Coles dan Schroeder, teori tentang teknik narasi yang membahas Alur, Tokoh, Latar, dan naratologi dari Seymour Chatman dan Lynch-Brown dan Tomlinson, teori tentang perbedaan kota dan desa dari Raymond William (teori ini digunakan karena penulis melihat ada pengaruh terhadap jalan cerita di novel nya). Penulis menemukan bahwa hasrat yang diminta tokoh anak-anak ke helper beragam mengikuti alur di setiap ceritanya. Hasrat yang dipinta juga selalu mengandung nilai moral. Nilai moral yang disajikan di ketiga novelnya disampaikan oleh narator di dalam cerita. Nilai moral yang didapatkan tokoh anak-anak mempengaruhi kepada perkembangan karakter mereka melalui hasrat yang mereka inginkan. Kata kunci : hasrat, keinginan, nilai, karakter, alur, latar, naratologi. ABSTRACT This thesis is entitled "Hasrat dan Nilai dalam Novel Trilogi Psammead karya Edith Nesbit". The purpose of this study is to describe the desires and values that appear in the three novels, Five Children and It (1902), The Phoenix and the Carpet (1904), The Story of the Amulet (1906). The desire in this thesis is same like a wish. The author chose the word “desire†to discuss in this thesis because in the end of the third novel, Nesbit used “Heart Desire†to end the story about asking wishes to the helper. In this thesis, the author identifies how desires and values are presented in the three novels, then how desires and values influence the development of children`s characters by using some concepts about “Desire†by Coles and Schroeder, the theory of “Narrative Technique†including plot, character, setting, and narratology by Seymour Chatman and Lynch-Brown and Tomlinson, theory about the difference “the country and the city†by Raymond William (this theory used because the author think this theory influence the plot of the story. The author found the desires requested by children to the helper are different, following the plot in every story. Children’s desires in these novels are contain moral values as well. Moral values are presented in those novels which presented by the narrator in the story. Moral values the children got was affected the development of their characters through desires they wanted.
