Abstract :
This study aimed to investigate the implementation of Process-Based Approach and the problems of implementing it by English teachers in teaching writing on the tenth grade students at SMAN 4 Singaraja. The method used is descriptive research method that focuses on data-based problem solving, presenting data, and completing data. The technique used to obtain data is observation and interviews in the form of observation sheets and interview guides through the researcher himself. This research was conducted at SMAN 4 Singaraja with an English teacher and used three classes, namely: MIPA 5, MIPA 6, and IPS 3. The results of this study were from the observation sheet and the interview guide. In the observation sheet, an English teacher used five stages of process based approach in teaching writing, those are: pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. In the interview guide, there are three indicators namely: the lack of process based approach, teaching ability, and teaching habits. In the first indicator, the problem is that it is difficult to implement the revising and editing stages due to a lack of student understanding. In the second indicator, the lack of guidance for students due to limited time makes most students experience obstacles from outside and from within the classroom. In the third indicator, teacher habits can affect students' character and abilities. Those are the result of the study that there are still many techniques and ways to implement the five stages and also there are still some problems in applying that approach.
