Abstract :
The objective of this research was to find students? difficulties in learning
and acquiring vocabulary at the eighth garade of MTSN Bojo Kajuara.
This research was undertaken as qualitative design with questionnaire and
interview. The population of this research was the eighth grade of MTSN Bojo that
consists of 36 students. The sample of the research was taken by using cluster
sampling technique. Class VIII B was taking as sampling in this research which
consists of 10 students.
The instrument of this research was a questionnaire and interview list. The
result of the data indicated that there was four main difficulties that students? face in
learning and acquiring vocabulary. They are : 1) difficulty in pronouncing word,
students were confused to pronounce the word because of the difference between the
spelling and the pronounce. 2) difficulty in spelling the word. The main problem of
spelling the word for students was the unfamiliar word and the complexity of the
word. 3) difficulty of diciding the meaning of words. The students were confused of
the meaning of the words which have more than one meaning. 4) difficulty in using
word in appropriately. Similiar with the meaning, the limited knowledge of word use
became studens?problem.
