Abstract :
The objectives of this research were to find out the students? problems in writing
descriptive text before implementing poster comment method and also the effect of
using poster comment method related to the students? responses in writing
descriptive text. The sample of this research was the eleventh grade of IPA 1. In
doing this research, the researcher applied mix research method approach with
exploratory sequential design. The first research step was done by using interview
and selected four students as sample. By using purposive sampling, the researcher
got informations about the students? problems in writing descriptive text before
implementing poster comment method, they were lack of vocabulary, difficult to
put ideas that cross their mind in the form of good and correct words, and
problems faced in arranging words into a sentence or even a paragraph, as well as
still difficult to find ideas to start writing text. After doing the interview, the
researcher gave treatments by applying poster comment method. Then the step
after treatments was giving the questionnaire based on the Likert scale with 25
students as sample. The statements of the questionnaire related to the use of poster
comment method. The researcher got the results of the questionnaire that the use
of poster comment method gave effect on the students? writing descriptive text.
The statement support by the final result of questionnaire was 72% or 18 students
got very high classification, and 28% or 7 students got high classification score.
