Abstract :
This research aims at finding out the types of affixation error and the most
dominant type of affixation error made by the students The students in Universitas
Maritim Raja Ali Haji, make errors when they writing affixation. The students are
less of idea because they cannot understand clearly the function of the word and
difficult when arrange the sentence because the vocab is lack so students need a
lot of vocabulary. Napa (1991:6) stated that vocabulary is one of the components
of language and that no language existed without words.
Affixation is a general terms for bound morphemes that are being added to
roots or bases. According to Manova (2014) Affixation is a morphological process
whereby a bound morpheme, an affix, is attached to a morphological base. .
Affixation occurs as the result of combination between bound morpheme with the
stem. A bound morpheme is a dependent morpheme. Its means that a bound
morpheme cannot stand by it self because it has to be attached with a free
morpheme. The researcher limits the two primary types of affixes: Prefixes and
Suffixes.
In analyzing the affixation errors made by the students, it uses four types
of errors proposed by Dulay (1982) such as omission, addition errors,
misformation errors and misordering errors. In this research, researcher will use
the descriptive qualitative design. It is used to collect, analyze, and interpret the
primary data and supporting data in as much detail as possible to draw conclusion.
The result of the study shows that from 30 essay writing, there were 144
affixes that consist of derivational prefixes, derivational suffixes and inflectional
suffixes. From this research prefixes errors consisted of 36 errors or 58.06.
number prefixes, all the errors consisted of 14 errors or 22.59%. Moreover
Relationship prefixes consisted of 12 errors or 19.35 %. Suffixes errors happened
in adjective suffixes which consisted of 28 errors or 34.15 % . Next noun suffixes
is consisted of 21 errors or 25.60 %. Next verb suffixes consisted of 20 errors or
24.40 %. Moreover adverb suffixes consisted of 13 errors or 15.58%
