Abstract :
Globally, about 17 million deaths each year are caused by cardiovascular disease, almost one third of the total deaths. The data revealed that the hypertension complication caused 9.4 million deaths each year throughout the world. Based on the data of Riskesdas in 2013 from the measurement of blood pressure of the inhabitants above 18 years old, it was found that the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia was25.8%. The objective of the research was to analyze the risk factors of age, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol consumption on the incidence of hypertension in male young adults in the working area of Bromo Puskesmas, Medan, in 2017.
The research used observational analytic method with case-control design. The samples were 44 cases and 44 controls. The data were gathered by using questionnaires and analyzed by using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with chi square test, and multivariate analysis with logistic regression test.
The result of the research showed that there was the influence of age (p0.022; OR=2.956 95%CI: 1.149-7.602, physical activity (p=0.010; OR=3.3095 95%CI: 1.292-7.417), and smoking (p=0.014; OR=3.619 95%CI: 1.257-10.421) with the incidence of hypertension. The variable which had the most dominant influence was smoking (p=0,006 OR= 4,446 (95%CI 1,445-13,678).
It is recommended that the Puskesmas management increase the role of Posbindu in decreasing the risk factor for hypertension like providing counseling, doing mutual sports activity, and creating No Smoking Area.
