Abstract :
Research on the ethnobotany studies herbaceous by Karo Community in
Gunung Leuser National Park area (case study in the village of Sei Bingai Telagah
Langkat District), has been conducted from May to June 2010. The purpose of this
study was to determine the types of herbaceous and their utilization by the community
in the village of Karo Telagah, Sei Bingai, Langkat District. The result showed that
101 species of 48 families used at Karo people for diffrent purposes, such as
foods/beverage, medicines, mystic/magic, yards, and dyestuffs. Utilization of the
largest is for the need of medicines (68 species), mixture materials food / beverage
(35 species), mystic / magic (19 species), yards (12 kinds), dyestuffs (1 species).
From the results of research conducted in order to plant value (UV) is the highest
there is in Perteguhan Bahing (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is 611 with UVs at 13 and
RUV 0.467%. Conducted in order to plant value (UV) is the highest there is in Pamah
Semilir Bahing (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is 773 with UVs 12.88 and RUV 0.594%.
Index of Cultural Significance (ICS) is the highest there is in Perteguhan kiung Flower
(Impatiens balsamina L.) is 75. Index of Cultural Significance (ICS), the highest there
is in Pamah Semilir is Galoh (Musa paradisiaca L.) is 96. Knowledge society Karo in
the village of Telagah utilization of herbaceous from generation to generation tends to
decrease. The highest level of degradation there is in perteguhan in age group I
respondents 20-35 years amounted 60.68%.
