Abstract :
Bioplastic is A plastic that naturally degraded by microbe or weather. Bioplastic is derivered from renewable biomass resource. The aim of this research is to obtain the effect of modified sugar palm fiber addition on the mechanical properties of bioplastics included tensile strength, elongation at break, funtional group using FT-IR, surface morphology using SEM and biodegradation. Fiber serves as filler in bioplastic, in this research, the filler that used was modified sugar palm fiber. Modified sugar palm fiber was soaked in 5% (w/v) NaOH to lose the lignin contents. The production of bioplastic method that used in this research was asting method. Variation of avocado seed starch and modified sugar palm fiber composition ratio were 6: 4, 7: 3, 8: 2 and 9: 1 (w/w) and variations of glycerol addition were 0,1; 0,2; 0,3 and 0,4 (v/w), tensile strength 3,46 MPa, elongation at break 5,90%. From the result of FT-IR analysis indicated O-H group, C-H group, C=O group And C-O group on bioplastics. The result of mechanical properties were supported by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed the bioplastics with modified sugar palm fiber as filler and plasticier glycerol have the fracture surfaces were compact. From the result of biodegradation test, bioplastics was completely degradated within 12 days in the soil.
