Abstract :
Denture base that commonly used is relatively expensive and does not have good mechanical properties. One of the efforts made to overcome this is to add filler using non-metallic materials such as waste chicken egg shells. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of adding filler microparticles chicken egg shells in the manufacture of denture base. In this study, the denture base made with acrylic resin as a matrix of polymethyl metaklirat and microparticles mixed with chicken egg shells as filler. The main ingredients used in the manufacture of denture base are acrylic resin polymethyl metaklirat and filler microparticles chicken egg shells. Chicken egg shells crushed into powder using a mortar then refined by using a ball mill for 5 hours and then sieved to produce a particle size of 100 ?m.. Denture base is made by mixing filler microparticles chicken egg shells with acrylic resin matrix composed of polymethyl metaklirat with powder and liquid. The volume ratio of powder and liquid is 2.5: 1. The composition of the matrix: filler used in this study consisted of 100%: 0%, 90%: 10%, 80%: 20% and 70%; 30%. Then the mixture is poured into a mold wax patterns in the cuvette. Cuvette closed and boiled at a temperature of 70 ° C for 90 minutes and the temperature was raised to 100 ° C and boiled for 30 minutes. Open the cuvette and then sample of denture base was removed from the cuvette. Denture base were tested and analyzed. The analysis performed include: PSA (Particle Size Analysis), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). Testing was conducted on the MOE (Modulus of Elasticity) showed the best results of denture base with the addition of fillers 10% of 2.307 GPa; test MOR (Modulus of Rupture) showed the best results of denture base with the addition of fillers 10% of 63.505 Mpa and impact strength test showed the best results of denture base with the addition of fillers 10% of 136.636 J / mm2.
