Abstract :
Planning nurses as human resources in the Inpatient wards is necessary for
decision making in preparing them at RSUD Dr. H Kumpulan Pane, Tebing
Tinggi. By good planning, the number and competence of human resources can be
determined for today and for the fUture. The research used descriptive
quantitative and qualitative method which was aimed to analyze the need for
nurses in the inpatient wards through direct observation, in-depth interviews,
questionnaire distribution, and documentary study. The population was 74 nurses
as Diploma 3 graduates who worked at the inpatient wards, and 40 of them were
used as the samples, taken by using random sampling technique. The result of the
research showed that 129 nurses were needed in the inpatient wards, but only 74
of them were available; therefore, there was the deficit of 55 nurses. Based on the
Importance Performance Analysis method, it was found that competence became
the first priority for the improvement was by documenting nursing according to
the nursing care standard, installing and releasing nasogastric tube (NGT)
according to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and showing effective and
efficient work attitude toward the implementation of nursing care.
