Abstract :
PT Bank Sumut is one of regional government?s owned companies which
is expected to advance the economic condition of North Sumatera. Its
performance in the growth of assets and earnings is relatively lower than that of
the other regional development banks. More than 50% of its employees belong to
generation Y that should give better and higher work contribution. The objective
of this research was to find out the influence of organizational commitment which
consisted of affective commitments, continuant commitment, and normative
commitment on the performance of generation Y employees at PT. Bank Sumut.
The research used transformational leadership as moderating variable which could
strengthen or weaken the correlation of organizational commitment with the
performance of generation Y employees. It also used correlation research method.
The population was generation Y employees who were 22-32 years old at the
Bank main office, and 40 of them were used as the samples. The data were
analyzed by using multiple linear regression analysis and variable moderation test.
The result of the research showed that, simultaneously, there was positive and
significant influence of affective commitment, continuant commitment, and
normative commitment on the performance of generation Y employees.
Transformational leadership as moderating variable could strengthen the
correlation of affective, continuant, and normative commitments with the
performance of generation Y employees at PT. Bank Sumut. The variables which
had the most dominant influence were affective, continuant, and normative
commitments.
