Abstract :
The writer was compelled to work on the theme of this thesis, after the writer read
briefly about the beginning of the emergence of the Marian Priest Movement. Based on the
author's reading, the emergence of this movement was motivated by Don Stefano Gobbi's
concern for priests who betrayed his vocation, and was tempted to form a rebellious alliance
against the authority of the Church. When he made a pilgrimage to Fatima on May 8, 1972, he
found an inner strength that prompted him to believe in the love of the Virgin Mary who would
unite all priests who accept the invitation to surrender to Mary's Immaculate Heart through her
(Don Stefano). Starting from the concerns of Don Stefano Gobbi, the author is interested in
examining the priestly maria movement more deeply.
It is undeniable that when a priest betrays his vocation, there are various of
consequences that accompany it, such as his service concerning priestly duties cannot be carried
out properly, a crisis of confidence arises from the people towards the priest and so on. All of
these are also have impact of the development of faith and the life of the church. Therefore, the
priests are required to maintain the sanctity of the priesthood properly. Church through
Presbyterorum Ordinis no. 12 affirms that priests who are ordained by the anointing of the Holy
Spirit and sent by Christ put to death in themselves the works of the flesh, and devote themselves
completely to the service of others and are thus able to move forward in the holiness, which they
have received in Christ to full maturity. This statement emphasizes that the priest's call to have
holy life is very important. It means that the priest's duty to sanctify the people can be carried out
properly if the priests live in holiness, living close to the divine.
However, the reality is not always the case. Facing the reality of the world that offers
many tempting offers, sometimes the priest are unabled to maintain the sanctity of their
Imamate properly. Therefore, the presence of the Marian Priests Movement that bring with it, the
intention of praying for the priests is a positive response to support priests so that they can be
responsible with their priesthood. Holding it on whole heartedly. The increasing of number of the
members of the Marian Priest movement indirectly indicates that there is awareness and concern
that arises from Church members towards the sanctity of the life of the Priests. As a spiritual
group in the catholic church, of course there is hope that this movement can help those who are
faithful to produce spiritual fruit in their lives. Therefore, the writer assumes that the Marian
Priest Movement has an influence on the development of faith and the life of the church. In other
formulations, the basic assumption held by the author is there is an influence of the Marian priest
movement on the life of the church and the development of faith for its members. That is why,
the author chooses the priest marian movement group in Nita as the object of research to look
for what kind of influence the priest marian movement has on the development of faith and the
life of the church members.
The main problem that becomes the starting point of this research is how can Priest
Marian Movement influence the development of faith and church life of its members in the Saint
Michael Nita Parish? The research method used by the author in the preparation of this thesis is a
quantitative method and a qualitative method using questionnaires and interviews as data
collection instruments. The number of respondents who became the object of this study are 69
people. It consists of 23 members of the Marian Priest Movement and 46 others are lay people
who incidentally are not included in the members of the Marian Priest Movement. In this case,
the people who become respondents consist of KBG administrators or its neighbors who are
close to members of the Imam Maria Movement. In this study, there are 3 main dimensions that
are asked, namely the first, the dimensions of understanding and responses of respondents to the
Priest Marian movement. There are 4 questions for these dimensions as, the respondent's
knowledge of the Priest Marian Movement, the reasons for being a member of the Priest Marian
Movement, the benefits of the Marian Priest Movement for their lives, and the challenges of
participating in group activities. The second dimension, the dimension of pastoral practice:
respondents' responses to church life activities. In this part, the author maps it into three parts,
that are consist of the participation in the parish, within the scope of KBG and the environment,
participation in group activities. In the parish participation section, three questions were raised,
such as, what are the roles of members of the Marian Priest Movement specifically in liturgical
celebrations, what services are pro
