This Research was aimed To find out whether or not picture series can
improve the vocabulary in explanation texts trough cooperative learning To know
the extent of picture series significantly improve the vocabulary in explanation
texts trough cooperative learning for the Eleventh grade students of SMK
Muhammadiyah 5 Kalitidu in the academic year 2018/2019.
The method used in this study was classroom action research (CAR). The
subject of the research was eleventh grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah
5 Kalitidu-Bojonegoro in the academic years of 2018/2019. There were 17
students taken as subjec. This research was done in two cycles. There are two
instrument for collecting data, the first is observation checklist and the second is
test. The instrument was multiple choice test as quantitative data and observation
sheet as qualitative data. Based on the result of data analysis showed from pretest,
post test I and post test II.
The result of this research showed from the mean of pre-test which was
59,5 after directed pictures was applied in the first cycle, there was an
improvement of the result of the students mean which was 74,8 and for the second
cycle after reflection on the first cycle there was an improvement of students mean
which was 84,1. And then The observation was done to observe what the students
had done during the teaching learning process. It was about the students attention
or focus to the researcher explained. , The students active participation during the
lesson, the students response toward pictures series technique, and students
seriousness in writing vocabularies of Explanation Text. Thus, the result of
observation was collected as the data, which is used as a basic reflection.
The percentage of the students who got the score 75 and more in the pretest
was two students of seventeen students (11,8%). The percentage of the
students? who got the score 75 and more in the post-test I was ten students of
seventeen students (58,8%). The percentage of the students? who got the score 75
and more in the post-test II was sixteen students of seventeen students (94,1%). It
indicated that the improvement of the students? achievement in vocabulary was
significant.
Moreover in the pre-test, there were 11,8% (2 of 17 students) who got
score ? 75. In the post test I, there were 58,8% (10 of 17 students) who got score ?
75. In the post-test II, there were 94,1% (16 of 17 students) who got score ? 75.

So, the extent of picture series significantly improve the vocabulary percentage
from the pre-test to post test I to post test II was about 94,1%. It means the target
85% was achieved. It can be concluded that taeching English vocabulary through
picture can improve the students vocabulary ability.
It could be stated that the media practical problems in the class could be
solved by using the developed picture series. Picture series improved the students
vocabulary increased well. In the conclusion, the implementation of strategy by
using picture series was good to solve the students? vocabulary problem in
vocabulary, consequently the students could understand about Explanation Text.
And the result showed that the students improved their achievement in English
vocabulary.
