Abstract :
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global public health problem with an increasing prevalence and incidence of kidney failure, poor prognosis and high treatment costs. The replacement therapy that is most chosen and performed by CKD patients in Indonesia is hemodialysis. Someone who is undergoing hemodialysis therapy will experience difficulties in controlling thirst which is caused because the patient has to limit fluid intake. If fluids are not maintained or there is excess fluid between dialysis sessions, it will have an impact in the form of weight gain, edema, and increased blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between fluid management and the level of xerostomia in patients with chronic kidney disease. The type of research used is correlational analytic research with a cross sectional approach. The sample uses Total Sampling, so the number of samples is 74 people and analysis of research data uses the Chi Square test. The results showed that from 74 respondents the level of Xerostomia in patients with chronic kidney disease who underwent HD showed that almost half of the respondents experienced mild thirst, namely as many as 30 respondents (41%). The results of statistical tests using Chi-square obtained a value of P = 0.000 (P <0.05). Based on the P value, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between fluid regulation and the level of xerostomia in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing HD. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between fluid regulation and the level of xerostomia in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing HD. Future researchers are advised to be able to replace variables with adherence to fluid regulation using audio-visual and health education.
