Abstract :
Public open spaces including city parks have an important role in urban life, especially the people of Balikpapan city as a place of social interaction, recreation and relaxation. This study aims to determine visitors' perceptions of three-generation parks as public open spaces, and understand what functions are best based on visitor perceptions. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection methods through questionnaires and direct observation in the three-generation garden. The results of data analysis are the best functions compared to the other three functions. The study provides a better understanding of visitors' perceptions of urban parks, particularly three-generation parks. This research can be a basis for governments and urban planners in improving and developing better public open spaces, by paying attention to the needs and preferences of visitors, and increasing their satisfaction in utilizing city parks as places of recreation and social interaction.
