Abstract :
IEEE 802.11 is a standard that is used for wireless local networks, or better known as Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi). Standard IEEE 802.11 has several standardization, including IEEE 802.11b/g/a, which has different data rate, frequency and modulation. STT Telematika Telkom Purwokerto has completed the construction of digital convergence and implement a Wi- Fi networks . But the speed of access , especially for video streaming services considered less than optimal. Access speed have been affected by the quality of the network. Therefore it is necessary to do design that can be used as a reference for optimizing Wi - Fi network The design is done in accordance with the infrastructure of Wi-Fi in STT Telematika Telkom Purwokerto, where the success of the network measured parameters include throughput, delay and jitter. The design is done by using a software simulator OPNET Modeler where each network component represented by the node. Simulations done using 5 quality video found on youtube application, which is 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p. The simulation results with 5 minutes, standard WLAN 802.11a WLAN performed QoS value best with lower delay average up to 0,0171 ms, lowest jitter average amount of 4,83 ms and an higher throughput average of 66, 24 Mbps. In 1 minute simulation, standard WLAN 802.11a has lower delay average value of 0,002 m , low jitter average of 0,92 ms, and the highest throughput of 7,784 Mbps. Based on simulation results, known that the WLAN standard that utilizes OFDM modulation, as well as higher frequency and bit rate will provide better QoS performance.
