Abstract :
ABSTRACT Satellite transponders operate near saturation so that signal power is able to overcome the effects of noise in satellite communications. This makes the transponder approach the saturation region which makes the transponder I / O characteristic not linear, resulting in intermodulation distortion which results in a decrease in satellite communication performance. OFDM is a transmission technique that can maintain the performance of a transmission system. But OFDM has a weakness that has a very high PAPR value, so we need a method to reduce PAPR. In this study a simulation of the PAPR reduction method is selected, Selective mapping (SLM). Selective mapping techniques utilize the PAPR properties of OFDM signals that are very sensitive to phase data shifts in the frequency domain. This study aims to measure the PAPR parameters on the transmitter side and BER on the receiver side as a benchmark of link quality. Based on the results of this study, the PAPR value without selective mapping technique is 10,054 dB for subcarrier 256, 10,686 dB for subcarrier 512, and 11,780 for subcarrier 1024. Meanwhile, OFDM by using selective mapping techniques for subcarrier 1024 on the use of phase factors 2, 4, and 8 obtained PAPR values of 10.309 dB, 9,168 dB, and 8,765 dB which showed an improvement in PAPR values of 0,995 dB, 2,136 dB, and 2,539 dB. The BER parameter in subcarrier 1024 to reach 10-6 requires Eb/No of 12 dB for phase factor 2, 9 dB for phase factor 4, and 8 dB for phase factor as many as 8. This shows that the lower the PAPR value, the smaller the BER value obtained. Keywords: OFDM, Peak average to ratio, Selective mapping
