Abstract :
Satellite technology can overcome the problem of cable networks which are less suitable for connecting separate communication systems over a considerable distance. With Very Small Aperture Terminal technology, it will be very practical to make remote areas can be connected. However, VSATs are very susceptible to interference, device reliability factors and high rain attenuation in some regions in Indonesia, thereby reducing performance. So a good calculation is needed on the slant range and antenna diameter with the aim of adjusting the VSAT receiver antenna diameter and being able to use the most optimal bandwidth and power. This thesis aims to analyze the relationship of slant range and diameter of VSAT antennas to the performance of VSAT receiver antenna performance, with performance parameters including Energy Bit to Noise Density Ratio (Eb / No), Carrier per Noise Ratio (C / N) so as to create a VSAT link that is possess optimal power and bandwidth. In this study using 2 links namely Cibinong-Jayapura and CibinongKota Baru. After analyzing it was found that the slant range affects the value of Eb / No and C / N. On the Cibinong-Jayapura link produces a C / N value of 14.99935 dB and Eb / No of 11.01994 dB, while on the Cibinong-Kota Baru link produces a C / N value of 15.01405 dB and an Eb / No of 11,03464 dB. The 3.8 meter antenna that was originally used on both remotes can be scaled down with a 1.8 meter antenna, with Eb / No values obtained of 10.5016 dB on the Cibinong-Kota Baru link and 10.34642 dB on the CibinongJayapura link which means this value is said to be sufficient from the lower limit of 7.2 dB. Both links use the same bit rate of 1.536 Mbps and produce a bandwidth of 0.6144 MHz. With the bandwidth and bit rate conditions, both links include power limited because bandwidth usage exceeds power usage.
