Abstract :
The Rector's Building is a facility under construction to support the teaching
and learning process at the Purwokerto Telkom Institute of Technology. WiFi is
part of the facilities and infrastructure needed to meet the service needs that will
be placed in the building. The designer of placing WiFi access points in the Rector's
Building aims to provide easy internet access. This study uses 2 methods for
placement of access points based on capacity and regional coverage. The
propagation model used in the design is COST 231 Multiwall Indoor propagation,
because the propagation takes into account several aspects such as the material /
type of barrier in the building space. The standard access point used is IEEE
802.11n because of the maximum speed and fast and good signal coverage. Design
based on capacity produces 19 access points, while based on regional coverage
produces 9 access points. The process of placing an access point is divided into 2
scenarios. The parameters used in the simulation are RSSI (Received Signal
Strength Indicator) and SIR (Signal Interferece Receive). From the simulation
results obtained each placement scenario 19 and 9 access points get the value
according to standard WiFi parameters. The best scenario in the placement of
access points is the placement of 19 access points scenario 1 with an average RSSI
of -47.86 dBm and SIR of 13.28 dB. Scenario 1 placement is well implemented in
Rectorate Building IT Telkom Purwokerto.
