Abstract :
The antenna is one of the important components in the WiMAX (Worldwide
Interoperability for Microwave Access) device. In general, microstrip antenna with
rectangular patch form is often used in WiMAX devices because it has advantages
that are small dimensions, easy to fabricate, and can work at high frequency.
However, does this mean that the rectangular patch has better performance against
the WiMAX service while there are other patches like the hexagonal patch form.
Therefore, by comparing rectangular and hexagonal patches, we can see the effect
on WiMAX antenna performance at 5.8 GHz frequency with CST studio suite 2016
simulation software.
Based on simulation result of rectangular and hexagonal patch to antenna
performance test parameter got return loss value equal to -24,437 dB, VSWR equal
to 1,1569, impedance equal to 51,561 + J0,744 Ohm, bandwidth equal to 247,6
MHz, gain 4,3535 dB, directivity equal to 6,48 dBi, and unidirectional radiation
patterns on rectangular patch. In the form of hexagonal patch antennas obtained
return loss value of -24.848 dB, VSWR of 1.1569, impedance of 49,158 + J0,532
Ohm, bandwidth of 138.7 MHz, gain of 4.2647 dB, directivity of 6.59 dBi, radiation
pattern unidirectional, and as well as on both patches under study have linear
polarization.
