Abstract :
ST3 Telkom Purwokerto is one universities that utilize WiFi network for
academic community. But in some areas there are still users who get signal level
with bad category. Ammount of access points (AP) existing has many 15 AP there
are still areas that have not covered the WiFi network properly. This is evidenced
by the existing AP simulation results that show the value of Receive Signal Level
(RSL) on the 2nd and 3rd floor of -74 dBm and -79 dBm where the RSL value is
categorized bad so it needs to be optimized placement of access points in the
research building. This research do coverage calculation and user capacity to get
ammount of AP. Based on the calculation, ammount of AP obtained as much as 26
AP from the calculation coverage and 20 AP from the calculation of capacity. From
ammount of AP obtained then simulated using RPSv5.4 simulator with 2.4 GHz
frequency and propagation model COST 231 Multiwall. To determine ammount of
AP and optimal AP placement then made a comparison of 4 placement scenarios
by looking at the RSL and SIR parameters. The results obtained by calculation,
there is an increase in ammount of AP from 15 AP to 26 AP and AP shift location
for the entire area to cover well. From the results of RSL and SIR in the optimization
simulation, the optimal AP number is 26 AP with the AP position placed on the
front edge with RSL result on the whole floor of -27.27 dBm and SIR of 4.05 dB.
