Abstract :
In the ancient time, people only needed voice services but now according to the
development of technology,people also need video and data service. Fiber to the home
(FTTH) is a fiber optic network infrastructure that can provide all three services. This
thesis compares GPON and XGPON technologies in FTTH network design to produce
recommendations which technology is more appropriate to use. The development of GPON
is needed in order to meet the needs of Internet users of the growing community. XGPON
is expected to provide solutions to the growing needs of the Internet. XGPON technology
has a bit rate of 9,953 Gbit / s for downstream and 2,488 Gbit / s for upstream. XGPON
bit rate is greater than GPON technology that is 2,488 Gbit / s for downstream and 1,244
for upstream. This thesis begins by conducting site surveys, designing networks, defining
devices and specifications, and making network simulations using Optisystem and
performing calculations. The location of the design is located in Klewer Surakarta Market
Area. Klewer Market is a business center strategically located in the city of Surakarta. In
the study obtained the value of GPON and XGPON link budget is equal to -13.78 dBm for
downstream and -13.84 dBm for upstream. While the calculation of Rise Time Budget on
GPON of 0.244 ns for downstream and 0.25 for upstream. As for XGPON of 0.048 for
downstream and 0.44 for upstream. Both FTTH GPON and XGPON networks are eligible
to be implemented because they meet the standards set by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia
Tbk and ITU-T. XGPON financing is bigger than GPON due to the high price of OLT and
ONT devices. In the research can be concluded that the use of GPON technology is still
feasible properly used with attention to customer needs and costs incurred in the design of
a network.
