Abstract :
This study aims to find out the influence of variations in volume fraction and
orientation of the direction of betel nut fiber on tensile strength and impact using
polyester matrix BQTN 157. In this study a composite of betel nut fibers was made
with variations in volume fractions of 4%, 5% and 6% with horizontal, vertical
and random fiber direction. Pull testing is done to determine the elasticity of
composites to normal loads while impact testing is done to determine the strength
of the material from the shock load. The results of the tensile test obtained a
maximum tensile strength value at a fiber volume fraction of 4% with a vertical
fiber direction of 36.3 Mpa while for the minimum tensile strength value at a fiber
volume fraction of 6% with a horizontal fiber direction of 12.53 Mpa. The results
of the impact test obtained a maximum impact strength value at a fiber volume
fraction of 4% with a vertical fiber direction of 28.92 kJ/m² while for the minimum
impact strength value at the fiber volume fraction of 6% with a horizontal fiber
direction of 12.59 kJ/m².
