Abstract :
The increase in blood clam production amounted to 445.13 tons/year. The effect of the high production of blood clams is to create solid waste from clam shells. Increased waste potential results in pollution to the environment. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of adsorbents on changes in pH and TDS values in water and to determine the content of shells before and after activation. The method used is Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The experimental design chosen is Box Behnken Design with 3 factors. The independent variables used in this study are activation temperature, holding time, and size. The temperatures used are 500?, 600?, and 700?. The holding time used is 120 minutes, 240 minutes, and 360 minutes. The sizes used were 100 mesh, 150 mesh, and 200 mesh. The results of this study show that the response surface for pH is a saddle point and TDS is the maximum position. Stationary points on the pH response are -0.187, -0.712, and 0.268 and Stationary TDS response are -0.626, -0.113, and 0.162. The resulting pH and TDS responses from the stationary point meet the standards permitted by the Minister of Health in 2010 for drinking water, namely 8.48 and 87.86 PPM.. Based on the results of the analysis of variance shows that the most influential factors on the pH response are holding time and size, and the most influential factors on the TDS response are temperature and size.
