Abstract :
This research aims: 1) to describe the theme, characters and characterization, plot and settings of novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. 2) to describe the struggle that presented in the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research. Qualitative research is done without giving priority in numbers, but focus on the deep understanding to interaction between concepts that is analyzed (Semi, 2012: 28). The technique collecting data is document analysis observation. Document analysis is a form of qualitative research in which documents are interpreted by the researcher to give voice and meaning around an assessment topic (Bowen, 2009). The techniques of analyzing data are data reduction, data display, and verification The result that the researcher got from this research. The theme in this story of contains two dominant theme, adventure and sacrifice. While for character and characterization the writer explained quite clearly. There are some description from the writer, description from the character, dialogue between the character, and what character done during the story. Plot as a sequence of every story divided into seven part, such as: 1) Exposition, when the story started to begin, usually introduce the character or places, or situation of the story. 2) Inciting action, this level contain certain problem started to begin. 3) Rising action, the complications arise and the conflict has developed. 4) Climax, it?s the highest point of the action and will lead the story into different way. 5) Failing action, the event leading to resolution after climax. 6) Resolution, the decision has made and the conflict almost solved by the character. 7) Conclusion, the problem has solved and the conflict resolved. Setting is the other part, including three types, time, place, and situation in this novel described directly, but for some setting described symbolic by the writer. For the extrinsic element, which is struggle, the researcher found three types of struggle. 1) Time, from the time the character could learn the patient of the process, and adapted and dealing with new condition. 2) Enemy/Opponent, from this type, the character could learn the feeling carefully with the other we just met, strategy, team work and never giving up. 3) Self-thought, from this type, the character learns how control the negativity thought that could be dangers.
