Abstract :
ABSTRACT A Study on 10th-grade Students’ Difficulties in Speaking English at SMA Muhammadiyah Gadingrejo Oktaviari Ayu Sasalia 17113062 Speaking is the most important one of the four skills. Speaking is an action to convey information and express idea and feelings. The researcher conducted this research to describe the students' problems in English speaking lessons and the factors that make the students difficult in English speaking lessons at the tenth grade of SMA Muhammadiyah Gadingrejo. This research used a qualitative research design. The researcher chose SMA Muhammadiyah Gadingrejo in the X IPS class as a sample of 21 students. In collecting data, the researcher used an open-ended questionnaire. Then, I analyzed the data collected by reducing the data, presenting the data, taking the conclusion, and verification. From the data analysis, the researcher found that every student had different difficulties in speaking. Two variables cause students to have problems in speaking English. Both internal and external forces caused them. Internal factors such as a lack of motivation, vocabulary, and pronunciation cause students to speak English. While from external factors, students have difficulties speaking English from teachers' teaching strategy and their environment. Keywords: Students’ Difficulties, Speaking English
