Abstract :
This study aims at describing the use of slang language employed by English students at University of GunungRinjani in their daily communication. The
description was meant to elaborate the types of slang language frequently employed as a communication strategy in daily conversation. This research was designed as a descriptive-qualitative research. The data were collected through observation, recording and taking note as the main source. Based on the result of the data analysis, the findings of this research can be stated as follows: (1) English
students employed three types of slang language as a communication strategy in
daily conversation such as; Slang in public school and university, Society slang and Slang in medicine, (2) English students employed four characteristic of slang
language as a communication strategy in daily conversation such as; Acronym, Metathesis, Metaphor and Clipping, (3) English students employed three function
of slang language as a communication strategy in daily conversation such as; Pursuit of self-identity, Emotive feeling and Achieving politeness. These three
findings were employed by English students at University of Gunung Rinjani as a communication strategy in daily conversation.
