Abstract :
The tenth grade students of MA Darussholihin NW Kalijaga, had
problems dealing with writing skill especially on recount text. The researcher
found some problems in the field when giving writing materials to the students,
especially the recount text. The problems are; the students are difficult in writing,
the students are lack of English vocabularies, the students do not have a good
knowledge of English grammar, the students have a low motivation in writing, the
students are not interested in writing. To overcome the problems, the researcher
designed an action research to teach writing skill through guided composition.
The purpose of the research is to investigate whether or not guided composition
can improve students’ writing skill. This research was classroom action research.
It aimed at answering the question concerning with the current subject of the
research. In this case the current subject of the study was the students’ ability in
writing recount text. The data of the research were collected by administrating
students’ achievement of all students class Bahasa MA Darussholihin NW
Kalijaga as the research target. The number of accessible population of the study
was 21 students’. While the instrument used to collect data was written test. The
conclusion presented as the answer of the problems of this research was by using
guided composition, students’ achievement could be increased. This was proved
by the fact that total numbers of the students’ who got passing grade increased
from 17 (55%) students in cycle 1 to 19 (75%) in cycle 2, and 19 (90%) in cycle
3
