Abstract :
The decline in production can occur because wells that have long been in production are no longer able to lift oil to the surface in primary and secondary ways. Therefore, tertiary methods such as chemical injection are carried out such as flooding polymers. Polymers commonly used in flooding polymers are divided into three namely synthetic polymers, biopolymers, and natural polymers. Natural polymers have very abundant sources such as seaweed and grass jelly. This study aims to identify alternative renewable polymers as an option for flooding polymeric materials by knowing early characteristics such as viscosity, compatibility and the effect of shear rates on these natural polymers. This test is carried out by an experimental method with several stages, namely drying, crushing to powder, and making polymers that are dissolved into brines that have different salinity. Then the polymer is allowed to stand for more than 24 hours until testing. The material tested in the form of local seaweed, grass jelly and biopolymer xanthan gum as a comparison. The parameters used are polymer concentration of 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm and 3000 ppm with salinity of 3000 ppm, 9000 ppm and 15,000 ppm respectively. The test results obtained indicate that the characteristics of natural polymers are the same as biopolymers, namely experiencing a decrease in viscosity with increasing brine salinity, polymer solutions compatible with formation water by showing a homogeneous solution and no lumps, as well as the effect of shear rate testing from low to high resulting apparent viscosity of the polymer decreases due to polymer chains damaged by large friction. .
