Abstract :
One of the intersections with signals in Pekanbaru City, namely the three intersection (Soekarno Hatta street - Arifin Ahmad road) and the fourth intersection (Ahmad Yani street - Prof. community to market areas, offices and others. An increase in the number of vehicles that are greater than the available roads causes congestion. One of the efforts to reduce congestion at the intersection is by using a yellow box marking. This marking is designed as a vehicle-free area, if there is traffic congestion at the intersection, vehicle users who are still outside the markings must stop and wait until the congestion clears. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of the yellow box markers, the suitability of the yellow box markers and to distribute questionnaires to the surrounding community to assess the understanding of the function of the yellow box markers. This study uses the Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 34/2014 and Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 5 Road Markings (2018) to determine the standards for making and placing yellow box markers, Law No. 22/2009 to determine the functions, rules and sanctions for violating box markings. yellow, and the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI) 1997 to determine the effectiveness of intersection performance. The parameter used to determine the effectiveness of the intersection performance is the degree of saturation. The results of the analysis show that the size of the yellow box markings at the research location is not appropriate according to Permenhub No.34 of 2014 the width of the straight and diagonal lines is 10-18 cm and the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 5 Road Markings (2018) has a diagonal line width of 15 cm and a width. the straight line is 20 cm, while at the research location the width of the straight lines and diagonal lines is 30 cm. For the results of public understanding of 100 respondents, only 25% know the function of the yellow box and the number of violators of the yellow box mark is 7195 violators. Based on the analysis of the degree of saturation, the intersection of three and the intersection of four has a saturation degree value exceeding 1.00 which indicates that the yellow box markers are not effective in improving the intersection performance
