Abstract :
Schizophrenia is the most common psychotic disorder. Nearly 1% of the world's population suffers from schizophrenia during their lifetime. The impact of schizophrenia can result in a person experiencing an inability to communicate or recognize reality. In addition, the impact that appears is decreased Personal Hygiene in schizophrenic patients. This occurs due to changes in thought processes therefore the ability for self-care activities decreases which will affect the independence of the patient's self-care. The aim of research was to analyze the relationship between therapeutic communication and personal hygiene adherence in schizophrenic patients. The research design used an analytic survey with a cross sectional design. Sampling using Total Sampling technique with 57 respondents. Collecting data using a questionnaire sheet. The results showed 36 respondents (63.2%) had good therapeutic communication and 21 respondents (36.8%) had poor therapeutic communication, 12 respondents (21.1%) had good personal hygiene. enough 21 respondents (36.8%) and less 24 respondents (41.1%). The results of the analysis used chi square test with a p value = 0.000 (<0.05) indicated there is a relationship between therapeutic communication and compliance with personal hygiene in schizophrenic patients. Thus in treating schizophrenic patients, a good level of therapeutic communication is needed in order to increase the patient's sense of trust and to be able to provide influence and suggestions that make the patient's condition better from a psychological point of view.
