Abstract :
Osteoporosis is a health problem that requires serious attention. Apart from its increasing prevalence, the consequences of osteoporosis are also quite serious. The aim of the research was to analyze the relationship between calcium intake and the risk level of osteoporosis in the elderly at LKS Beringin. Quantitative research design with a Cross Sectional Study approach. The elderly population in LKS Beringin, Gorontalo Regency is 140 people, the sampling technique was purposive sampling of 58 people. Data analysis used the Chi Square test ((= 0.05). The results showed calcium intake in elderly was mostly normal (58.6%). The risk level for osteoporosis was mostly in the low category (67.2%). The chi square test results calculated the X2 value 21.748 and the ? value 0.000. It was concluded, there was a relationship between calcium intake and the risk level of osteoporosis in the elderly at LKS Beringin. It is recommended that nursing home managers pay more attention to the type of food consumed by nursing home residents to meet their nutritional intake, especially calcium, to prevent osteoporosis. The orphanage can consult and coordinate with nutritionists at the Community Health Center to arrange food menus and daily food patterns for the orphanage residents.
