Abstract :
Aging in old age is a process in which every human being will experience a setback both functional and body structure. Physical changes that occur in the elderly have an impact on the independence of the elderly where independence can affect changes in life situations, social rules, age and disease. The elderly will gradually experience limitations in physical abilities and an increased vulnerability to chronic diseases and emotional disturbances so that they can experience anxiety. The objective of research was to determine independence with anxiety levels in the elderly. The research design uses descriptive correlation with a cross sectional design. The results showed that 9 respondents (20.9%) had normal levels of independence, 6 respondents (14.0%) had mild anxiety, 7 respondents had moderate (16.3%), and did not have severe anxiety. While the Independence category of Dependence with a normal anxiety level of 1 respondent (2.3%), mild 8 respondents (18.6%), moderate 10 respondents (23.3%), and severe 2 respondents (4.7%). The results of the analysis using the chi square test with a p value = 0.027 (<0.05) indicate that there is a relationship between independence and anxiety levels in the elderly. So it is recommended for the elderly to be able to reduce the burden on the mind even in independent or dependent conditions so that it cannot affect the level of anxiety.
