Abstract :
This study aims to determine the relationship between Social Comparison and Self Esteem of Instagram Users in New Students of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Muhammadiyah Gorontalo. With a quantitative approach with a population of 72 students. The number of samples is 72 students using the total sampling technique. The results of the study showed that the level of social comparison with self esteem in the moderate category was 49 with 68.1% and 51 with 70.8%. Based on the results of the Product Moment Correlation test with a correlation value (r) of -0.587 and a sig value (p) = 0.000 (p <0.05). So it can be concluded that there is a negative relationship between social comparison and self-esteem of Instagram Users in New Students of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Muhammadiyah Gorontalo. This shows that the higher the social comparison, the lower the self-esteem and vice versa, the lower the social comparison, the higher the self-esteem.
