Abstract :
Traumatic experiences are situations that can happen unpredictably, cannot be prevented, and victims are not prepared to deal with them. Literature, as a depiction of human existence, provides readers with a range of human responses to an overwhelming experience. Novels are among the literary works that primarily deal with entertainment and real-world issues. The aim of this research is to increase awareness for victims of trauma and mental illness. This research employs a qualitative approach with. Based on the analysis, the researcher finds traumatic experiences of Edward Prendick which are grouped into three parts, namely a.) Being stranded/drift away and lost, b.) Witnessing death/seeing dead body, c.) Meet scary creatures, being attacked and being terrorized.
