Abstract :
Colostrum is a part of Mother's Milk (ASI) which has the characteristics of a yellowish liquid that comes out on the first day to the third day after giving birth. Colostrum contains more immune substances than mature (mature) milk, so it is very good to give because it functions to form antibodies in infants. The Objective of research was to determine the factors associated with giving colostrum to newborns at RSIA Sitti Khadijah, Gorontalo City. The research method uses an analytic survey with a cross-sectional design. The sample of this research was 42 postpartum mothers as respondents using purposive sampling technique. The results showed most post partum mothers were in the poor category in giving colostrum to newborns (59.5%). Based on the facts, this is as a result of factors found by researchers that on average the majority of respondents have insufficient sources of information, insufficient family support and insufficient knowledge. Therefore can be said sources of information, knowledge, and family support are very closely related to the mother's actions in giving colostrum to newborns.The results of statistical analysis using the Chi-square test, obtained the P-value for each variable having a relationship, namely knowledge 0.000, and sources of information 0.000, and family support 0.001. thus itis hoped the Sitti Khadijah hospital staff can provide education, especially to post partum mothers regarding the importance of giving colostrum to increase the mother's actions in an effort to provide colostrum to newborns.
