Abstract :
Nosocomial infections or Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) are infections that occur in hospitals and attack patients who are in the process of being treated. It is estimated that around 1.7 million patients are affected by nosocomial infections each year. One of the most effective ways to prevent nosocomial infections is to practice universal precautions by practicing hand hygiene. This study aims to determine the relationship between nurse knowledge and the implementation of standard operating procedures for hand washing at the Emergency Room of Toto Kabila Hospital. This research is a type of quantitative research using a cross-sectional study approach. The population and sample in this study were the implementing nurses in the Emergency Room which were determined by the total sampling technique, namely 32 implementing nurses. The research instrument used observation sheets and questionnaire sheets. From the results of the study showed that the number of nurses who had less knowledge was 14 respondents (43.2%) and with a good level of knowledge and obedient in carrying out hand washing according to SOP amounted to 18 respondents (56.2%) and for respondents who did not carry out washing hands according to SOP Total 11 respondents (43.4%) Data were analyzed using the chi square test. The results of the research study found that there was a relationship between knowledge and the implementation of standard operating procedures for washing hands using running water at the Emergency Installation of Toto Kabila Hospital with a p value of 0.000 (< ? 0.05).
