Abstract :
Asphyxia in newborns is one of the causes of mortality and morbidity in neonates. The prevalence rate of asphyxia in Prof. Dr. H. Aloei Saboe There has not been a significant decline with the number of 34 babies in 2022. One of the factors can cause asphyxia is the length of time the mother is giving birth. This research aims to determine the effect of prolonged labor on the incidence of asphyxia in newborns. This rsearch uses a case control design with a retrospective approach. The sample was 30 respondents using purposive sampling technique. Data collection used observation sheets and data analysis used the Odds Ratio test and Chi-Square Test with a significance level of 95% (?=0.05). The results showed that of the 30 babies born with prolonged labor, there were 15 babies who experienced asphyxia and the statistical test results obtained p=0.000 (p<0.05) with OR=0.583. thus it can be concluded there is an effect of prolonged labor on the incidence of asphyxia in newborns.
