Abstract :
People with mental disorders often has a greater stigma and discrimination from the surrounding community compared to individuals who suffer from other medical illnesses. The objective of research was to determine the community's stigma towards people with mental disorders in the Work Area of the Limboto Barat Health Center. The design used a qualitative phenomenological study approach, the participants were the people in Limboto Barat health center with a total of 6 people who met the sample criteria and 1 health worker as the person in charge of the psychiatric department at the Health Center. The findings showed there is social stigma in the form of stereotypes that cause mental disorders (stress, disappointment and unfulfilled desires) and them considered dangerous, a form of stigma labeling, namely people with mental disorders are called crazy to distinguish them from people around them and as someone who is dangerous. while the forms of stigmatization of discrimination, namely people with mental disorders are avoided, run away, expelled and allow the act of shackling. As a result of the three forms of social stigma in people with mental disorders, it can add to the mental problems experienced by patients with mental disorders thus patients suffer even more. It can be concluded, social stigma in the form of stereotypes, labels and discrimination still shows an unfavorable stigma against people with mental disorders. Therefore, it is hoped the puskesmas can encourage the community to be able to accept the people with mental disorder in their environment which can improve healing for them.
